non-profit organization

Great resource regarding the care of kangaroos!

The Creature Teacher, Inc., located in the Piedmont Triad of NC, is a 501(c)3 environmental education non-profit organization founded in 1999 with the main purpose of reaching out to children, teachers and the community in order to teach about local wildlife conservation, exotic animal education, general pet care and the importance of respect for nature.   Many of our animals were abused or neglected.  It is so important for people to be educated about animals, particularly exotic or indigenous wildlife if we expect to have these animals around us for years to come!  Due to insurance regulations, we cannot have on-site visitors however we would love to visit your classroom.

We now have animals from 6 different continents!

From 1999-2002*, we worked closely with Smart Start, a government funded program.

"In keeping with the overall goals of Smart Start, The Creature Teacher, Inc. an Enrichment Program grantee, contributes to the efforts in increasing the level of quality care children aged 3-5 years in organized care in Forsyth County. Specifically, this program enhances the cognitive, language, physical, and social-emotional development of children through a variety of activities that focus on animal science. Early childhood professionals benefit as well by participating in The Creature Teacher's program. Learning how to integrate science-based curriculum activities in a developmentally appropriate manner helps early childhood professionals to maintain a higher quality classroom which in turn contributes to the maintenance of a higher star rating license for the child care program."
Jennifer Beaumont, Enrichment coordinator for Forsyth County Smart Start

*Unfortunately, due to government cuts, the enrichment programs offered by Smart Start were discontinued.
