A Fennec Fox might very well be cute and fun but there's a lot to know before deciding to bring one of these bundles into your home.  For one thing, most people have a hard time housebreaking them.  They are excellent jumpers and climbers and they will jump on the furniture and if they aren't housebroken, they will do their business whenever and wherever they please!  This is a natural instinct for many of them and it's important to the fox to "mark her territory".   Discipline will only make the fox more difficult to deal with.  They also might rub their scent glands on the carpet!  A Fennec Fox is like a huge barrel of energy!  They move SO quickly and because they are so tiny, they can be under your feet in a flash.  They love to bite toes!  Unless you can handle being bitten on the toes, shoes are a must when interacting with the fox at all times!   This poses a catch 22 because it's very easy to step on them and a 2 lb animal being stepped on by a grown adult is a recipe for disaster.  These little guys can get out the door in a blink of an eye.  Strange and loud noises can scare them so they could dart off easily and be hurt if the chance to get outside comes along.  If you have children in the house, it's almost impossible to keep a Fennec Fox inside.  If they do get loose, they would not be caught.  They are so fast and skittish and being loose outside would be tragic.  They cannot be taught to do "tricks" although some can learn to walk on a halter.  Sahara has been visiting people since she was a kit (the name for a baby fox) and so she has adapted to the sounds of schools and children.  Many people enjoy these foxes enough to put all the above misgivings aside.  If you still feel like you are interested in giving a Fennec Fox enough time, patience, patience, patience, love and understanding...  do plenty of research.  Start by following the links below because for a few select people, they are loving and enjoyable to have around!
