OPOSSUM Ivy the 'possum is a great educational experience for anyone interested in learning about animals that can be found right here in NC. We think it is very important to spread the word about these incredible animals. They are not the scary 'monsters' they have been portrayed as in the past. Have you ever heard of a viscous 'possum attack? They are essentially very docile creatures that would rather 'play dead' than fight. A wild opossum might look pretty frightening because they have more teeth then any other land mammal and when they are cornered, they do show them as a defense mechanism. It's a face only a mother or a true animal lover could love! Ivy was raised by a rehabilitator who spent too much time loving her. She became so friendly and so dependant that she was not a candidate for release into the wild. Because you must have a license to keep one in NC, she was sent to us to be used as a liaison in our educational programs. She does a great job!
Interesting Links on Opossums: What to do if you find an opossum and other info Some animals are not legal in all states to keep as a pet, you must make sure this animal is legal in your state before acquiring it. (we may have animals that are permitted only with a license for education) |
