Sugar gliders are nocturnal and do not come out to play until after dark when most of us are going to bed.  They are extremely social and will eventually develop serious side effects from loneliness and neglect.  They benefit greatly from being kept as pairs unless their people play with them and hold them every day for extended periods of time.  This can be difficult for some families because sugar gliders can be quite expensive.  On the pet market, they generally run $150 to $200 each!  Sugar gliders require a very diverse diet including fresh fruit, various supplements, protein sources and live insects.  They cannot be potty trained and they will use the bathroom whenever they please, including on your hand, clothing and anywhere else you have them!  Because of the amount of sugar they consume, they have a strong odor about them and their habitat.  Unfortunately, the more you clean their cage, the more they mark their territory!  If you are still interested after hearing all this, follow the links below to learn more about sugar gliders.  They have been kept successfully if you do all your homework and you are willing to offer patience, respect and kindness to these fantastic critters.
