Turtle

Timmy is an Eastern Box Turtle and like all box turtles, he is terrestrial, which means he is the kind of animal that lives on land. Male box turtles have red eyes and female box turtles have yellowish-brown eyes. Turtles have no teeth! They have sharp points in the front of their mouths that help them to ‘chomp’ down on their food. Turtles are omnivores so they eat meat (worms and bugs) and fruits and veggies. The Eastern Box Turtle is the state reptile for North Carolina so these turtles are ‘protected’ by the N.C. wildlife commission. You should not keep a box turtle as a pet. They have a hard time transitioning from a wild, free roaming life to life in a small aquarium. Eastern Box Turtles can live to be 100 years old!
